A SAMPLE OF MY BOOK THE MAIN CHARICTER IS BUYING SOME BOOK The sounds of traffic filtered in through the window from the bustling street. The young clerk having just finished organizing the books on the display shelf smiled to himself. His little store was doing well, because rich men thought only expensive things where good. He absentmindedly adjusted the small vase of red and white flowers on the small table next to the window. After he was certain that the flowers where perfect he went behind the large lacquered counter the divided the room and started to polish it. His few but rich clientele like to see things immaculate, and he agreed with them. He was just thinking he may have to paint the walls again soon as the bell on the door jingled as the door opened. The young clerk gave Ehun a quizzical look as he came in. It was odd for him to get a new customer, especially one that smelled so much like a sailor. The conflicting concept of a literate well educated sailor resolved it's self when he decided he must have just been a passenger. "Well come sir what brings you to my fair shop in our humble city of Drent's Cape?" "A ship, witch is one of the things I would like to learn more about. Do you have any books about ship building and seamanship?" "Of course sir let me go get it for you," said the clerk. When he had bought the shop from his uncle he had spent some time rearranging things. He was neat and snobbish, although he would not admit to the latter. He found that customer had a very unsettling way of rearranging the books on the shelves. So except for a few books on display all of his stock was behind the counter. This meant a little more work for him during the day, but he always knew what books he had. He also sold many book by suggesting them to some of the customers. "Would sir also need a book on navigation, or sea charts?" "Yes both actually and do you have any books on cooking sea food. The cook on my ship is just dreadful and I am hoping to make some improvements. Also I need some blank books, I am teaching the captain's son his letters, by having him copy other books." "That is very noble of you sir," commented the clerk from amid the shelves unaware that it was a blatant lie. "Will you be needing anything else sir?" "Well I do need to sell this book," said Ehun as he pulled out the book on herbs. "I think I have learned every thing I could from it." "Sir seems to be very well read," said the clerk as he set the books from the shelves onto the counter. He picked up the book on herbs and considered it, as well as something else. "Is sir going to be at sea much longer?" "Yes I will be at sea for some time to come before i reach home." "Well sir I was wondering if I could interest you in some protection for your books. I came into possession of a bag that can hold much more than it's size implies. Also it protects anything inside from water, according to the seller." He saw Ehun's interested but skeptical look, so he continued with his story but lowered his asking price. "I came by it when an old sailor who had retired years before was running low on money. He sold me this bag and all of his old sea charts. It took all the money I had at the time to buy them. The chats all sold rather quickly but this just stayed in my humble little shop. I think that no one truly believed my story about it. Because of this I will offer it to you for fifteen gold crowns plus the book on herbs you would like to sell. I will also give you all of the book you have selected if you will buy it from me." Ehun thought about this, it was a hard story to believe. Ehun could tell from his training with Ratt that the man was not lying, and Rat had once mentioned such bags. Long ago at the height of the old empire the mages had made may such articles for their personal use. They made life easier for the mages and unlike weapons they required no special metals or permission from the Collage. Giving a sigh as he lost a battle with himself he said, " Ok. let me see it." "Here it is sir," said the clerk with a smile, he had a feeling he had made this sale. The ornate leather bag he brought out, it had a circular bottom that was about a foot across. It had a drawstring to close it and symbols that Ehun recognized from his training ran along the top. Ehun no longer had any doubts even if the clerk did. "I think you have a deal sir. Can you put my new books in that bag as I count out your money," said Ehun as he watched the clerk place all of thee books inside the bag, as a final test of the clerk's clams. Even if it didn't keep out water it was well worth fifteen crowns if it held all the books. He watched with one eye as all of the books went into the bag and it not change it's shape in the least. Satisfied he put the fifteen crowns on the counter, "It's a pleasure doing business with you." With that he picked up his new bag and left before the clerk could try to sell him anything else. The clerk was glad to see Ehun leave with the bag. Now he had only books in his store, so he was happy. It had happened exactly like he said it had, but the bag was more or less thrown in for free at the end. By the clerk's count he just got fifteen crowns for four crowns worth of books that not many other people would buy.
