Episode 1: The Heart of the Mountains. Back ground: Iron Springs is a small town in the Red Mountains. The average population of the town is about 300 people at any given point in it's history. The town is named for the small ground spring that originally caused the settlement, clean water is hard to find in this area. The spring itself is fed from an underground stream whose source is the run off of the large glacier which crowns this mountain known as The Red King. It was in this town that the Tears where first found. Tears are diamonds stained with iron oxide so that they are either out and out red, or have red swirls and waves in them. The largest Tear was also found hear, it is know as The Heart of the Mountains. It is a 200 karat diamond, with many interlocking oxide waves so that when you look it they almost seem to be moving. The Heart of the Mountains has a long and often tragic history, the finder of it is the only person history notes as having profited by it. He found it in the mines he was working in and gave it to the king as a gift. The king made him into the Duke of Iron Springs and his descendants retain the title, even though that kingdom was long ago torn apart by numerous civil wars over the Heart. Iron Springs is has a well established Iron trade, and often gets visitors but the water supply limits this and the Duke puts restrictions on how many visitors can be in that town at a time. The town folk are mostly miners but some of them have orchards as well, fruit trees being the only sustainable local food crop. The rest is traded for, iron from Iron Springs is widely praised for it purity and never goes unsold for long. Current times: The Heart of the Mountains has been lost for more then four generations now. Many people are starting to think that it was a myth or not as large as it was said to be. The town of Iron Springs still mines iron and the occasional Tear from the mountain and the Duke is of a kind disposition and is a wise local ruler. A new kingdom has grown across the mountain and the Duke took the view of many of his ancestors and "let them that wants to be King be King." He made a treat with him as soon as his army approached so that none of the town people got hurt. This is how most of the Dukes had dealt with new Kings. For the most part town life stayed the same except for one thing. The new King in an effort to legitimize his Kingship has set a large reward to anyone who finds and brings him The Heart of the Mountain.
